This weekend(10/27) we took an overnight camping trip to our next summer camp location, Camp Wanocksett in Dublin, NH.
We arrived at camp around 9:30am and proceeded to make camp in our planned summer site called "Rotory" which is one of four sites that are across the street from the main activities. The weather for the day was rain until 6:30pm when it finally stopped. Most people had their tents and equipment setup prior to lunch. We had 2 large carports and a tarp between them to keep the picnic tables and cook area out of the rain. For lunch we cooked up some hamburgers and hotdogs with some potato chips. After lunch, we took a tour of the entire camp. The overall camp is very spread out and in very good condition with a nice new shower facility. After our tour, we started getting prepared for dinner. We start a nice fire in the fire ring, Start cooking the frozen burritos in the large frying pan, and started the charcoal brickettes for the dutch ovens. The menu for the evening was beef/bean/chicken burritos, campfire pizza, Venison stew, and double chocolate yummy cake. The burritos didn't turn out as expected, they tended to be kind of mushy, I think , in the future, we might want to skip that meal. The campfire pizza was good, we had pita bread, added sause, added cheese, wrapped them in aluminum foil, and placed them on racks on the campfire. They were pretty good for a quick and easy meal. The venison stew was cooked in a dutch over with venison, sliced potatos, 3 cans of cream of muchroom soup, and 3 cans of water. The stew went fast and unfortunately some missed out on it. The cake was also cooked in a dutch oven which was a double cake mix, marshmellows, chocolate bits and cooked for 2 hours but was well worth the wait. The campfire was put out around 11:30 and all went to bed. The whole night the moon was bright and wind sounded like a freight train with the temperature in the upper 40s. The next morning we broke down out tents and gear then had breakfast. For breakfast we have french toast, sausages, oatmeal, and cereal. We were on the road and back to the church at around 12:30. Everyone seemed to have a good time despite the bad weather we had on Saturday. |
