Troop 76 participated in the 2008 Northern Essex district Klondike derby held on January 26 at Andover Recreation Park.
The concept of this years derby was to form sled teams and complete all the stations to earn gold nuggets. There was also a biathalon competition that had groups of two trying to complete all the stations on a timed basis. Troop 76 manned the fire building station where teams of 2 to 6 had to build a fire to heat up a can of snow in order to melt the snow until the can was full of water. Each team to complete this task would get a gold nugget. Each troop that participated in the task would get 1 gold nugget as well. Troop 76 had two sled teams doing all the stations as well as two biathalon teams. Our two biathalon teams finished the competition in first and third. Our troop won the overall competition that combined the two sleds gold nuggets. Both sleds participated on the sled race which involved the teams pulling their sleds on a fairly large course. Our teams finished the race in positions 2 and 10. Congratulation to troop 76 on their hard earned awards |
